Staying Healthy This Winter (+Giveaway with Panado®!)

The weather in Cape Town has taken a turn for the worst and, while there is something wonderful about Winter (there is nothing quite like a family night under the blankets with hot chocolate!), it also brings the sniffles and when our little ones start feeling under the weather, we need something quick, easy, and reliable in reach. Panado® has launched the new 5ml Strawberry Syrup Sachets which are so easy to take with you on-the-go and give you peace of mind!

Here are a few more tips on how to keep your kids healthy and warm this Winter:

  1. Use a three-layer clothing system when you are dressing your kids and yourself (base layer, insulating middle layer, and waterproof outer layer)!
  2. Play indoor games with your kids to keep them active and warm.
  3. Have regular warm, nutritious meals – check out our budget meals if funds are tight.
  4. Keep Extremities Covered. Gloves, socks, and hats are crucial as they prevent body heat loss and keep your kids nice and toasty.

BUT if all else fails, go back to Step 1 and use Panado® to fight fever and pain.

I layer up during winter with Woolies Thermal wear and honestly i keep the heater on at night.

I have a six month old baby who is quite active. Luckily the Woolies Sherpa babies indies have been keeping him warm. Do you perhaps have any suggestions for babies?

    1. Thank you for entering Jennifer. With babies, it is recommended to dress them in one more layer than what you are wearing – however always monitor them to avoid overheating as each child is different. Check their neck as their hands and feet will naturally be cooler. Another tip is to dress your baby in closely woven natural fibres, where possible, such as cotton or bamboo. These will allow your baby’s skin to breathe and not overheat, while also keeping them snug and warm.

  2. Love this giveaway, such a handy prize! A family favourite in winter is gathering all our blankets, pillows, a set of fairy lights and building an indoor fort. Best enjoyed with a hot chocolate and board games!

I curl up on the couch, dressed in comfortable lounge wear, use warm socks with a cozy throw and drink a warm cup of milk🥛 with ginger 🫚 and turmeric, it keeps me warm, builds my immunity and fights off colds and flus.

    1. Sounds good! We approve ✅🙂

  4. There is only one proper way to keep warm…. COMFORT FOOD. 😃

    1. We do love our comfort food!

In winter, I keep warm with cozy blankets, hot cups of tea, and something delicious baking in the oven 🤍☕ There’s nothing better than the smell of home-baked treats, warm socks, and spending time with the people I love on chilly days ✨

Warm clothing, thick blankets come out. We stock up on hot chocolate and marshmallows for the night. Snack on popcorn and chips. Full bellies equal warm happy bodies. Heater on very cold nights with the room door and windows closed to retain heat. During the low humidity months like April, May and sometimes June we use a humidifier which also helps heat up the air as well as moisten up the air. We use a wheat bag that we warm in the microwave. During the time we have no electricity (which is quite common) we do not make use of any gas heaters or indoor fires (safety reasons). Invest in a pop click type hand warmer which can be boiled to activate it again to keep it ready for use next time. So if you don’t use heaters and when you don’t have electricity, pile on those blankets, use your partners and kids for warmth, get a pop click hand warmer, gloves, beanie and scarves, fluffy nightwear and warm shoes help too!

    1. A wealth of ideas here, Ranisha. Thank you for sharing! We also use the microwavable wheat bags – we call them snuggle bags.

Raising a toddler and a teenager 😅 My “go-to” is definitely an oversized jersey. Keeping warm by cuddling under the blankets with at least one pooch (or cat) each, surrounded by piles of unfolded laundry, armed with enough snacks and chocolate, and of course coffee, strong enough to restart my soul.
Would absolutely love to win this Panado hamper, because moms don’t get sick days. 🙌🏻

  14. I make sure I keep warm with my water bottle and a cup of coffee before bad. And I always take my vitamins after eating .

  15. Has to be warm fluffy socks, bedroom slippers and gowns, gowns are a must especially for the cold mornings and evenings.

  16. Yes! The mornings are SO cold!

  17. I make sure my family have their beanies and scarfs on to keep warm outside. Inside the home we love to sit infront of the fire with a cup of soup and homemade bread😋❤️. Panado is a lifesaver when the symptoms of cold and flu begins
