Recently, my family and I escaped into the blissfulness that is called the Overberg and stayed for the weekend in Hermanus. I love winter escapes. The holiday towns are much quieter and you get to explore things differently and find hidden places. Everything is so green and peaceful…yes, I wish we didn’t have to leave but we did. Though a little ‘for sale’ sign nearby was rather tempting, we made our way back to civilisation ready to take on a new week.
Our trip to Hermanus took two hours either way. We stayed at the Potting Shed self-catering apartments, which are super family-friendly and beautifully decorated. Simple and neat with Blissful views of the ocean. There was a boardwalk just in front of the garden which took you straight on to the rock pools and sea. Amazing!
The kitchen had everything we needed from an oven to cutlery and even a washing machine! To make us even more at home there was tea, sugar and mini milk tubs (my daughter loved these) which were appreciated since we arrived there at a cold 9pm. We checked in at the guest house and Annamarie cheerfully welcomed us and made sure that we had everything we needed, including information about activities in the nearby area.
The Self-Catering apartments comfortably fit 4 people but can take up to 6 people. Even the security guards were friendly!
On Saturday night, we stopped by a lovely restaurant called ‘Eat’ (and did we eat!) in the tranquil Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. We were greeted at the door and immediately seated near the warm fireplace just before it started to rain. The food was really great, I am still dreaming about the Seafood Risotto I had…They were helpful (but not hovering) and it had a really great atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their other dishes. Hubby had their signature burger with camembert. It looked great, he said it was really nice.
Hermanus is really lovely and a central place to stay if you wish to visit nearby places such as the Blue Flag Grotto Beach. For more information on Hermanus, go to http://www.hermanus.co.za
