With the change of the season, I thought I would approach another subject of change – Perimenopause. What exactly is Perminopause?
Perimenopause is the natural, gradual phase in a woman’s life when the ovaries begin to produce less estrogen, signaling the approaching end of reproductive years. It usually starts in a woman’s 40s, but can begin in the mid-30s and lasts until menopause.
Symptoms of perimenopause that you may have heard friends talking about include hot flashes, sleep changes and mood swings but some of the less-talked about changes are emotional clarity and setting of stronger boundaries. During perimenopause, many women start reassessing their lives, relationships, and how they treat themselves. Have you experienced this? Tell us in the comments below!

The Emotional Awakening Many Women Experience
During Perimenopause, many women develop a greater desire for peace and authenticity while also beginning to question long-held patterns. For years you have dedicated yourself to your family and home – a beautiful sacrifice of time and energy – but at this time you may begin speaking up more confidently, walking away from unhealthy dynamics and realising that your emotional well-being matters. While these are all good things, you may feel unsettled by these changes.
Here are some things that will help you focus on taking care of yourself:
- Learn to start setting boundaries without guilt.
- Make sure you take time for rest and reflection.
- Start journalling and/or therapy.
- Spend time with supportive people.

Reclaiming and Embracing your Identity
At times, you may feel lost – don’t worry! You may be at the start of discovering who you really are. Revisit your dreams and your passions, let go of roles that no longer fit, and embrace personal growth. This is a time to reset and to live more authentically. Perimenopause is a powerful stage of your life – you have gained wisdom from life experience, have found better emotional clarity, and developed confidence in your personal values – embrace it! These changes may also result in helping you create deeper connections with those you love 🩷.
For some, Perimenopause is the season where they stop shrinking to make others comfortable and start living with the strength they have carried all along – it will obviously be a little uncomfortable at times but be patient with yourself as you navigate this new time in your life and enjoy the journey!
