These past School Holidays we were blessed to travel all over South Africa. I love travelling around South Africa. South Africa is truly one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and I love our people. One of our stops took us to Leighwood Lodge in Parktown North, Johannesburg. We stayed there a few days and it was a relaxing treat. Each stay at Leighwood Lodge comes with Breakfast and Leigh from Leighwood Lodge was so kind and made special arrangements for my daughter’s breakfast as she has allergies. In fact, on the day that we were leaving (we were leaving at 6am), Leigh made us an on-the-road pack to take with us as we would miss breakfast. The accommodation was lovely and clean, everything we needed was provided, and we slept well – which was good since we had very busy days every day we were there. Winter seemed to make everything look so pretty! I’m not a huge fan of Tuscan-style walls, but somehow everything was put together in such a way that it just works.
While we stayed there, we were able to visit the Bird Gardens at Monte Casino and we also stopped inside Monte Casino for lunch. . .speaking of lunch, we had a few great meals at Mike’s Kitchen / Mike’s Heritage House. You have to try the Steak Bowl and their Cheesecake! Actually, there are so many great items on their menu and they are always on, we often ate there when it was loadshedding. I enjoyed the food so much that I forgot to take photos, but here is a dessert photo for you, plus a few quirky characters from the Bird Gardens.
