So, yes, it’s true. I am on a new health kick. Not fad diet pills or shakes but rather a healthy health kick. My family are always there behind me, aren’t they just awesome? My daughter loves healthy food, so that makes it a little easier. My husband just goes with the flow – food is food.
Last year I did this 30 Day Challenge, it was great in a way but didn’t last as long as I would have liked because (my excuse) life happened. You see, I can’t use ignorance as an excuse – maybe before but now I have the knowledge on how to have a better diet and live a healthier life.
Something that my dietician said has stayed in my mind for years. You must not feel deprived because then you will not follow through. My dietician carefully laid out a plan (cheats included).
So, back to the health kick…
I won’t admit it but I have a perfectionist personality – I am kind of an “all or nothing” girl. Either, I am going to do it right or not at all. So if I say I am in, I am in. I am going to do this right. However, I am not perfect – so therein is my problem.
What works for me
What does work for me? Well, my clever dietician figured it out. Cheating! What? For a “by the book” person it sounds a little strange even saying it! Allowing space for imperfection (in all areas of my life, not just health actually). When I do that, I am more able to make healthier decisions and stick with it.
I am now just trying to be “better today then I was yesterday”, making better choices and cheating everyday! How does that saying go? Slow but steady wins the race.
Cheating everyday helps me to not feel deprived. When we feel deprived we make unwise decisions. When we feel content, we are more able to make good health decisions. I know, from past experience, that soon I will be craving healthier food again – I am not there yet!
