People handle life and learning differently. When unexpected situations arise, when life throws you a curveball, or when you are just figuring out how to handle the next stage in your child’s development; we all chose to respond in a way that works best for us. For you, it may be having a mommy/girls day chatting about new challenges and finding out how friends handled the same situations. It may be that you go back home to mom and dad and ask for their sage advice. It may be that you just ‘veg’ on the couch and watch that series to take your mind off of things. For me, it can be all of the above (ha ha), but one thing I have always done when I don’t know the answer or am experiencing something new is research. I read, I learn, and hopefully I grow. One thing that my parents always did advocate for is lifelong learning, with books (and now with all the information online) you can learn all there is to know. Obviously, do proper research when it comes to what you read online, but we are blessed with so much information at our fingertips. No other generation before now has experienced such easy access to information. You can learn almost anything you want to! Want to learn a craft, diy, or musical instrument? Just ‘youtube it’ is often the response.
Lifelong learning is a form of self-initiated education that is focused on personal development. While there is no standardized definition of lifelong learning, it has generally been taken to refer to the learning that occurs outside of a formal educational institute, such as a school, university or corporate training.
Lifelong learning does not necessarily have to restrict itself to informal learning, however. It is best described as being voluntary with the purpose of achieving personal fulfillment. The means to achieve this could result in informal or formal education.

1. Lifelong Learning can often Redirect us
When we feel stuck where we are, learning a new skill (or learning about new or different places where we could enjoy working using our current skillset) can change the direction of our lives. I am also all for using the intuitive approach, so once you have done your research, try to take some time to pause and see what you feel about the different directions your life could take. Try not to make a decision based on fear, but on what is best for you and your family. Marie Forleo did a great video on this:
2. Lifelong Learning can Break Cycles
Every family has cycles that they need to break. Lifelong learning has often helped me understand the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ of a situation and this has helped me to break harmful cycles. I am a work in progress, as we all are, and that is why we require lifelong learning, but I am a bit better than I was yesterday and that will make a difference for my family’s tomorrow.
3. Seeking Lifelong Learning can help us Serve/Expand our Community
As you seek to learn more in different fields, you will get to know more people with similar goals and people who have a passion for lifelong learning. Also, as we seek ways in which we can serve our local community, we will often find opportunities for learning and growth; this could be at schools, churches, local government, NGOs, etc.
By pursuing new learning goals, you expose yourself to new learning environments where you might meet like-minded people. Whether you enroll in a formal educational institution, join a lifelong learning society, or simply participate in online forums, you can connect with other people who prioritize lifelong learning.

Learning has no age limit, you are never too old or too young to learn something new. We also learn the most when we teach others, so find opportunities to share what you have learnt with others. Lifelong learning can change your life and the lives of those around you. The only stuck part of you, must be you sticking to your goals! You are so worth it, what will you learn today? 💕
