Family Travels: The Southern Beach House, Agulhas National Park

Recently, we were blessed to spend a weekend away at the The Southern Beach House situated in the Agulhas National Park. What a glorious weekend away. We got there quite late on Friday night but in a way it was kind of fun because we were able to see the Second Oldest lighthouse in South Africa hard at work.

We travelled a bit further and found The Southern Beach House and looked forward to a good nights sleep and the excitement that awaited us the next day.

The Southern Beach House is offers quite a large space which can fit up to 12 people if I am not mistaken which is great if you want to get away for a bit with friends (which we did) but it still has that cottage feel to it (I love that!).

It is really just the perfect place for families and it has everything you need in it and Lorraine is just great at keeping you up to date on what you can do and what to look out for on your way.

The House has several rooms and bathrooms which is just perfect when you have quite a few people staying together and a wonderful downstairs area where we could gather for a “friendly” game of 30 Seconds.

In the morning, I got off to a lazy start while my friends went for a walk. Did I mention the views! I just want to melt thinking about the views (we left way to soon!).

We then headed down to the Lighthouse and climbed to the top. It is high! I didn’t think of it so much going up until I had to come down again. Heights and I…we’re not really friends but it was worth it!

Too high, too high!

We also met this friendly guy just outside the lighthouse. Can you identify him?

When I eventually got down again we headed for the much-needed “Tip of Africa” photo and then explored rock pools and a nearby shipwreck.

We headed home for a late lunch (and a nap) and braaied that evening. We stayed up late that evening because we knew the next day was Sunday and we would be heading home (I really wasn’t ready to head home).  We didn’t even get a chance to visit Struisbaai which is the longest uninterrupted sand beach in the Southern Hemisphere!

If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful, fun-filled, weekend away exploring you will not go wrong staying at The Southern Beach House. Just make sure it’s not the weekend I plan on staying there ;).
