Family-focused Games that inspire Creative Thinking

* * * WIN * * *

Once you have started to relax a little, once your holiday has started and you are enjoying the festive cheer, these games/build sets are just the thing to keep young (and old) minds active; and it will also help them develop their creative side. I just love, love, LOVE them for a few reasons.

Pencil Nose (game)

Let me start with the Pencil Nose game. I am going to be dead honest here, my hubby said he thought it would be a little boring – but it wasn’t. Nope. It was totally the opposite. Firstly, let me just celebrate the game developers here – they have thought of everything! For example, when you put on the glasses (depending on your face build) they will sit differently on each person. They started to slip off my nose when I first put them on, so hubby is like. . . “er, that is what the elastic is for”. I was like, “Oh, yes” 😊. Being a firmer plastic, it can also easily be santised between turns.

To start the game, you insert the marker into the “glasses” and the card fits into a slot at the top of the drawing board, which is super helpful as you need your hands to hold the drawing board. Because it is transparent (or see-through, as we like to call it), you can see what is being drawn immediately, and somehow it works – even though it is technically backwards you don’t notice it. You have to think of creative ideas on how to draw the words, and sometimes we were in stitches (side note: its very hard to draw with your nose when you are laughing, ha ha).

It is a brilliant game, which offers loads of fun for family and friends, and something that can be used for many years. You can easily replace the marker with any white board marker as they have different connectors that come with it; this game is much more earth-friendly than a toy that lasts one season!

Think you’ve got a nose for drawing? In this hilarious party game, players use their sniffers to sketch objects and then hope their teammates can correctly guess what they’re drawing before time runs out! Simply pick a card and then, using the special Pencil Nose glasses, try to draw the object onto the screen, using only your nose.

For ages 8 and up.

Available at: Toy Kingdom, CNA and Takealot.

Magformers Basic Plus (30 piece)

Next, let me share with you these awesome, high-quality Magformers. Magformers are magnetic shapes that click together to form different, larger items. You can use the book, initially, to learn how to creatively put the pieces together – there is a method to this which reminds me of coding. Once you learn the basic method you can create just about anything, which is wonderful for brain development and creative thinking. However, even the very young can have fun putting things together. The pieces are well made and made to last. Again, a brilliant learning toy that will outlast the holidays and won’t find itself at the nearest landfill by New Year. My daughter and I had fun creating different shapes and discovering how they work. Tell me, doesn’t the kid in you just want to reach through your screen and grab a few!?

Create 3D structures from 2D nets with Magformers Basic Plus 30-piece Set. Create houses, towers and the ‘magic ball’. Perfect for brain development, critical thinking and STEM education. Follow the Step-by-step educational idea booklet for ideas and instructions. Each geometric shape contains magnets that never reject, so you’ll always hear the Magformers click. When playtime is over, use the magnetic power to simply stack and store.

For ages: 3 plus

Available at: Toy Kingdom, CNA, Takealot, Everyshop and Loot
