Embracing Growth: The lifecycle of a woman

Each stage of a woman’s life is different and filled with new discoveries about yourself and your own strength. When you have young children your life is absorbed by the day-to-day responsibilities of growing little people. Often each week can feel like a blur while you desperately try to absorb each moment. When your kids get a bit older, life doesn’t slow down but it definitely changes, and in the last few years of your kids being in high school, yet another change happens. As women, our lives are ever-evolving and it is a wonderful journey, if you embrace it!

The Power of Confidence and Reinvention

I have a mommy-friend, Maxine, who actually reads my blog sometimes (Hi, Maxine!). She has since moved away but I used to love our deep conversations about anything and everything. Once on the topic of birthdays, she told me that she doesn’t age, she grows. I loved that! How differently could we look at life if we took on that perspective?

As you get older, you can experience a newfound confidence that comes from years of learning, adapting, and overcoming challenges. You are growing, not just aging. Oprah Winfrey, who has continuously evolved throughout her career, once said:

“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change their future by merely changing their attitude.”

Career and Purpose

Sheryl Sandberg, the previous COO of Meta and author of Lean In, encourages women to take bold steps in their careers:

“We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in.”

As you get older, it may be time to step into leadership roles, start businesses, or finally embrace the career you truly love. The wisdom gained from years of experience makes you a valuable contributor in any industry. Embrace who you are becoming!

Health and Well-Being

Aging is often viewed with anxiety, but I would encourage you to embrace wellness in new and empowering ways. Prioritising physical and mental health is essential, and you may find joy in activities that nurture both body and soul.

Michelle Obama, a strong advocate for well-being, emphasizes the importance of self-care:

“We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to-do’ list.”

From yoga to strength training, mindfulness to balanced nutrition, now is the time to discover that feeling good is just as important as looking good.

Love, Relationships, and Self-Worth

With experience comes a deeper understanding of self-worth. As you get older, try to develop healthier relationships—both with yourself and others. Learn to set boundaries, prioritise meaningful connections, and embrace self-love.

Maya Angelou beautifully expressed this journey of self-discovery:

“I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.”

Whether you are single, married, or navigating new relationships, approach love with wisdom and authenticity. Most importantly, learn to love and take care of yourself more.

The Power of Community

One of the most beautiful aspects of growing older (or just growing) is the sense of community and sisterhood. As women, we get to uplift each other, share knowledge, experiences, and encouragement.

Brené Brown, a researcher on vulnerability and connection, reminds us:

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”

Through friendships, mentorship, and social circles, you can continue to learn from those around you, proving that growth is a lifelong journey.

Last Thoughts

Growth instead of just aging is powerful. It’s a time for new beginnings, deeper connections, and fearless ambition. Embrace each stage of your life and be gentle with yourself. Embrace your strength, wisdom, and confidence!
