It is that time of year again (around my birthday – can you believe it’s that time already!?), when I tell you about my new favourite things. This year has been. . .well. . .hard, but it has also been transformative. I had to learn to use my voice, I had to learn to be humble, I had to learn to make time for self-care, I had learn to have greater faith, I had to learn to slow down, I had to learn to BREATHE. I am still learning and that is really what life is all about – learning and growing.
How much good inside a day? Depends how good you live ’em.
Shel Silverstein
This year, my new favourite things all have this new energy to them. It is time to slow down, breathe; it is time for self-care, family-care, friend-care and it is time to care about the earth. It’s time to learn to enjoy life again, the simple moments. It is time to invest in things that last, from family relationships to good leather boots. It’s time to be kind to yourself, YOU DESERVE IT! We all need to learn how to live and experience life again, with hope and gratitude, instead of letting it life just carry us around like a boat on stormy waters.
Here are my 7 New Favourite things for 2021
1. Take some time to relax, have a Tea Journey
There is nothing better than taking some “Me Time” with a cup of Rooibos Tea, or another herbal tea of your choice. I personally do love my Rooibos Tea, I find it very healing in many different ways. Danielle started this online shop quite a few years ago with all my favourites, it is called The Tea Journey and they even have subscriptions where you get to try a mix of different teas each month. Awesooome! (I hope you are hearing that in the sing-song happy voice that I am saying that in. . .sigh, I love Rooibos).
As a child growing up in South Africa almost everyone would agree that you grow up around Rooibos: not keeping anything down – sip some slightly sweetened rooibos; sunburnt – soak in a bath of rooibos, replace the liquid in recipes for rooibos, rooibos with chai spices as you watch the campfire dance, long day – put your feet up with some sweet and milky rooibos… I also vividly recall teas place in my father’s side of the family – meals were always a family affair, breakfast- everyone sat down together to eat something accompanied by tea and every afternoon at 3 pm tea was served. Often accompanied by something sweet. Afternoon tea was always served whether it was a splendid affair with cakes and friends or in a mug as the family grounded themselves to finish the day. Ah, Sunday afternoons, chatting, touching base, laughing…having fun
My husband has similar “tea” memories. Tea continues to play a part in our family. Finding time for tea as we navigate raising a family and modern day living has proved interesting. Our afternoon teas have turned into a cuppa once the kids have gone to bed or a simple Sunday afternoon cup. We still use tea to heal and ground the family.

2. Simple Truth Household Products
We love Simple Truth products. Simple Truth products are actually a Private Label wellness range by Checkers. Can you believe it? It just shows you, it can be done, if we ask for it! They have many products in their food range that we love because they are egg, gluten and soya free (and taste awesome too), but did you know there is so much more to their range. They have a whole household range that is earth-friendly. Their products are biodegradable, cruelty free, natural (with no artificial colours) and paraben free. They smell amazing, but don’t give you a headache! They are part of my new favourite things and I guess you can see why! I just had to include them.

3. A Touch of Creativity with Emhori Crochet
Emhori Crochet offers a range of crocheted items, but recently they also brought out these cute bags with various sayings on them. Some of them are not my cup of tea (see what I did there), but some of them I just love, like the one below. It reminds me that the work I do in my home and for my home, I do willingly and there is joy to be found in service.

4. Put on your Positive Pants
I love this brand and what it stands for; they really are about empowering women in so many different ways. How can you not smile when you are wearing your Positive Pants? Also, I love their designs! Whether you are out with friends, at the gym, or at the office; you can look great and be comfortable wherever you are.
In April 2018, “Positive Pants” was officially established, which also marked the beginning of our beautiful journey and the immeasurable amount of love, blood, sweat and occasional tears that would be poured into our budding little business. At the time, even though we were working full-time jobs, we both jumped into dedicating our spare time to working multiple pop-up shops and events every single weekend for the first two years as our absolute best attempt to get our brand’s name out there. The passion and vision that we shared for our business and the message we wanted to share really made the lack of sleep and stress all worth it. These events and our social media platform enabled us to connect with so many different, like-minded women who all shared the same love and passion for health and wellness and we knew that we could only prosper that much more if we worked together with them.

5. Blu Betty
Blu Betty offer quality, leather shoes that will last; their designs are also beautifully feminine. I really love their range of sandals, boots, accessories, etc.
Blu Betty is a proudly South African brand with our shoes being manufactured in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We strive for authenticity, quality and individuality in design and execution. We eschew mass consumerism and prefer to be “artisanal” in context and in our offering. Whilst we have seen fantastic growth since the inception of Blu Betty and are proud to be one of the leading shoe brands in the country, we still subscribe to the concept of “slow fashion”!
Blu Betty’s team includes one of the most talented shoe designers in South Africa and as such we are able to produce original, relevant and contemporary designs with a touch of quirkiness which sets our brand apart. Blu Betty has its own factory so we are able to be agile and fresh in design and are able to effectively manage our production and manufacture. We are drawn to the authentic and “organic” look so “effortless style” is always translated into our designs! However, a sense of the classic and inclusion of current trends/materials/technology also has a design influence.

6. Lindt Salted Caramel
As much as we are trying to be healthy in every way; we also are allowed to treat ourselves once in a while (see it as self-care. . .and you know my passion for Lindt already). Did you know that Lindt has introduced a new flavour? As with most of their products, this is just another gem in their collection – we love it! These with a good book or your favourite movie and a cuddly blanket, and you are set!

7. Ecosia
Ecosia use the profit they make from your searches to plant trees where they are needed most. It’s THAT simple! There is a chrome plugin that you can also add so that all your searches are done through them. They don’t collect unnecessary data, and through each search you do, you are saving the planet!

I hope you love these items just as much as I do, but mostly I hope that you love yourself a little more this year, that you are a little kinder to yourself; and that your family relationships flourish!
