Curious Thor and Opening New Doors

Working from home one day, I opened the front door to go and do the school run and was greeted by a large snout and two eyes almost at eye level. I screamed and slammed the door shut. . .realising. . .I think. . .that it was a dog. Now, to be fair, we do have Baboons sometimes wondering around these here parts; so my loud yelp was totally valid (let’s go with that).

I opened the door again and see down the road a sad face staring back at me, I think he just wanted to say “Hi”. Introducing Thor, our new neighbours dog had escaped his new home. He is half Alsatian and half Irish Wolfhound (you can google image search that). I greeted him again, this time with proper introductions. He is almost my height, not that says much ha ha, but he looks like a really big Alsatian. He has the eyes of an angel.

This got me thinking about life. Sometimes we open a new door and we are like “Woah, No Thanks!”, and we shut it immediately. Perhaps what we see on the other side seems scary or strange, but in the meantime it is not like that at all. Perhaps, just like Thor, it is not what you expected. Perhaps, it is just what you needed.

I believe if you keep your faith, you keep your trust, you keep the right attitude, if you’re grateful, you’ll see God open up new doors.

This year has been full of changes, not all of them comfortable or easy; but I feel that God has been with me all the way. I am understanding and appreciating things in new ways. Maybe you have felt the same? Maybe you have been nudged (or pushed) in a new direction this year? I want you to know that it is going to be okay, in fact, I believe it will be better than okay.

Back to curious Thor, funny thing is, I was thinking how nice it would be to have a dog. We unfortunately have dog allergies in the home, though, but now I get to greet this large gentleman when he goes for a walk. Thor seems to enjoy going for walks and spending time with the neighbourhood kids. He is a hit and I think he has forgiven me for shutting the door in his face.

Have a beautiful week ahead!

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
