Simple Vanilla Custard for Two

A simple recipe for those nights when mom and dad feel like a little something sweet but don’t feel like going to loads of effort!


  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup of Milk
  • 3 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 3/4 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp Salt (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp Ground Nutmeg


  1. In a small bowl beat the egg, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and salt (if desired) until blended.
  2. Pour into two ungreased ramekins and sprinkle with nutmeg.
  3. Place ramekins in square baking tin. Fill pan with hot water to a depth of 2-3 cm.
  4. Bake, uncovered, at 180° Celsius for 30 – 35 minutes or until knife inserted near the centre comes out clean.
