The “I am Bored” Jar

September 26, 2013

If your kids are home for the school holidays, even with planned “fun time” and outings you are bound to hear the words “Mom, I’m bored” at some point. The “I am Bored” Jar is the perfect solution!

All you need is a glass jar, some paper and awesome boredom busting ideas. Make some of the ideas fun and some of them not-so-fun, like chores. These activities should last about 30 minutes.

Here are some ideas of what to put in your jar:

  1. Have a sock puppet show
  2. Read a book
  3. Have a picnic
  4. Make up a story
  5. Listen to music & dance
  6. Play hide-and-seek
  7. Do a puzzle
  8. Tidy up a room
  9. Play a card game or board game together
  10. Play solitaire
  11. Dust
  12. Take photos
  13. Write a letter or thank-you note
  14. Draw a picture
  15. Colour in a colouring book
  16. Build something with blocks
  17. Do 10 jumping jacks
  18. Dress up
  19. Bake something
  20. Do something nice for someone you love
  21. Blow bubbles
  22. Make a bracelet
  23. Build a fort
  24. Vacuum one room
  25. Have a water fight

Obviously, you can make it age appropriate for your child and for those activities that require you to help them you can place a sticker on the paper/stick that you have written the activity on. That way, if you need some time they can reach in and pick out an item without a sticker on which they can do by themselves.
