20 Tips to make life Easier!

September 7, 2012

We have compiled 20 Tips to make your life a little easier. If you have your own great tips, please share them with us below. We would love to hear more!

  1. When you are cooking on the stove and spill something. Sprinkle salt on the spilled liquid. Wait for your stove top to cool then just sweep the salt sprinkled mound into the waste can and the spill is all cleaned up.
  2. Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove , set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy microwave pizza.
  3. Rub a walnut over scratches on furniture to hide imperfections.
  4. Look up! Use wire to make a space to store gift wrap rolls against the ceiling, rather than cluttering up the floor.
  5. Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers  put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget  about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening  plastic they will not get  through wet newspapers.
  6. Place a stocking over a vacuum hose to find small items.
  7. Baby Wipes are not just for babies. I use them for EVERYTHING. They even take crayon of upholstery…don’t ask!
  8. Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
  9. Place iPod / Phone / MP3 player in a bowl to make a quick, impromptu speaker. We tried this and it really does amplify the sound!
  10. If you have to fry foods and hate the fried odour that can linger for days, leave a small cup of bleach on a kitchen counter (make sure it is far away from small hands). The bleach will absorb the fried odour as you make your food. Be sure to dispose of the bleach properly and keep out of reach of children and pets. For a more natural idea, try using lemon juice.
  11. Bread tags make the perfect-sized cord labels.
  12. Sorry Mr Ant! Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it “home”, can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it  rains , but it works & you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
  13. Store sheet sets inside one pillowcase to keep set together.
  14. When you are baking cake, instead of using flour to dust the pans, use a little of the actual cake mix to dust the pans, this way you will not have flour on the outside of the cake after baking.
  15. Freeze Aloe Vera in ice-cube trays for soothing sunburn relief.
  16. If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside,  just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an  hour or two. Voila! It  unseals easily.
  17. To clean the inside of your microwave, fill a microwave safe bowl with ½ cup of soapy water, heat on high for 2 minutes, carefully remove bowl and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  18. A tip for holiday packing. Store shoes inside shower caps to stop dirty soles rubbing on your clothes.
  19. Stop cut apples browning in your child’s lunch box by securing with a rubber band.
  20. To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the  squirrels won’t come near it.
